Last Day Of The Trip

I woke up in a sad mood that it was travel day, the day to go back to Colorado. On the walk to the Ferry I was soaking every last moments of being on the San Juan Island. Remembering all the great memories that have been created, not wanting to leave. Wanting to stay for another week although I was still thankful to have this great opportunity to get this chance. That day the sun was shining, unusual weather for San Juan. Inhaling the air while capturing a beautiful  metal view of this place one last time. Getting into the ferry I right away went outside with beautiful people surrounding me. Leaning along the railing admiring San Juan Island from the outside. Seeing all the boats crowding the island. After 5 minutes after the ferry took off most of the people went inside while I stayed outside next to my best friend seeing the view the most I can before we leave for good. We stayed out there for a good 20 minutes while the wind was blowing hard. Strangely I found out that I love the sound of wind blowing against my ears. After, the whole avid class was taking pictures outside with the town and the Friday Harbor sign view. We only took about 100 pictures, any last minute pictures as we could with the Town of Friday Harbor. Before we arrived to the Pikes Market I took an amazing nap on the bus. As we walked around the Pikes Market there was this horrible smell around some places but yet smelled like heaven in others. I was thankful when I received the 20 dollar bill so then I could buy items from Seattle. My friends and I were walking around trying to figure out what store to go to or what to eat. We decided to go to the first Starbucks but we only saw the outside because it was really full of people. Although it did look somewhat different from the other Starbucks, I liked it and though it was unique. I was dying to eat some Seattle food. something new, but all I ended up with was a tall S'mores Frappuccino from Starbucks. And no its wasn't even from the "first Starbucks", but was still delicious. I also bought 2 matching shirts with my friends. It was 2 for 14 so why not. It was exciting to  be at the airport. I wasn't ready to leave, about to shed some tears all over. On the plane I got the window, the best set you could get. I know, I got real lucky. I adored seeing  the view from the highest point. It was amazing, unable to stop smiling. Sadly, we landed to back from where we came from. I was super excited to tell the best story of my life to my family.

The last day of Vacation

The last day on vacation was extremely intense in my mind do to the activities and actually talking to people. Of course in the morning we had risen for the day early to prepare for the trip back and make sure everything was clean enough. Since we had to make everything look good there was in fact a slight panic because we waited to clean. We quickly woke up and started cleaning packing and getting ready. As we prepared for the day we started to get yelled at for not being ready and still having a mess. We made sure we had all clothes and shower equipment. We finished packing all clothes and shower accessories and almost forgot something very important. We almost forgot the food/snacks. Since we finally had everything we had all left and headed to the ferry.
As we headed to the ferry I ate some of my food and talked with Sam. We talked about some of the things that had happened over the week and how he felt with the week. We arrived at the waiting area for the ferry and everyone talked together some students engaged in conversation with strangers about the week and why we were there. We got on the boat and me and Adyn played our own version of Blackjack and gambled. The ferry ride since I was doing something was faster than the first time but not as natural since I wasn't outside with nature.
We got off the ferry once we got to Anacortes and walked to the bus to get us to Seattle. On the bus I listened to music in my head but it was the same song since I didn't actually have music to listen to. Everyone talked and had fun sharing stories with friends. I on the other hand was alone and to myself trying to understand how the town and how everything worked with the shops and houses.
As soon as we got to Pike's Market I started to talk to the other kids but still tried to understand the surroundings and how everything worked. From paint to pottery then jewelry then inside the center of the market wish honey fish and other seafood. When first entering there was two men dressed in an odd way but singing and playing two instruments for the crowd to try and get money. As we got to the pig statue we did a count off and the teacher gave us a small talk about when to meet again. They then gave us our money for lunch or whatever we spent it on. We then split up into groups to go explore the market instead of glancing at things as we pass by. After we finished the hour at the market everyone met back up and got ready to go back to the bus to head to the airport. Once we started leaving the market we began to walk through the large crowd of people and cars and started walking down the big streets in Seattle. We finally got to the bus after seeing part of the city and travelers throughout the walk. When we got on the bus I sat at the very back but around people since I was bored and they had interesting conversations and were funny.
We finally reach the airport and do another count off after getting all of our luggage. We then entered the airport went through security and went to our gate.We at first had to wait and get our talk about taking someone where ever we went to be safe and most people left. After awhile I finally left with Sam and Jaiden to go get food. I got Mcdonalds because McDonalds is the best Jaiden went to get Chineese food from a restaurant and Sam went to get pizza like a few other kids. We then went back to the gate and I finished my food and then me and Adyn played more poker. We then got on the flight and went home.

Last Day ):

Our last day I felt very tired from all the things that we did. I did not want to leave because it was very fun and also did not want to come back to the cold weather in Colorado. What we did was kind of the same things we did on the first day but in reverse. Except when we got back to Seattle we stopped at pikes market. It was very crowded. Also it smelled so much like fish because it was next to the water and there were also many shops that were selling fish. When we got there we all got 20 dollars to go buy food. We were also able to go buy our own merchandise. I got a painting of Seattle, the painting cost $40 but the seller gave it to me for $20. After I bought it I went to a restaurant were they were selling sandwiches. After that we went  back on the bus to the airport. We were about 20 minutes early so then we got to go eat. After that we got on the airplane and left Seattle and got back to Colorado. The landing was rough but we still got there safely. Our parents where waiting for us where we go up the stair lift.
Our last day of the trip was an adventurous day. Sad to know that was our last day at San Juan but we all still had a blast. In the morning we got onto the fairy to leave San Juan Islands. On the boat drifting away from the island was a moment I will not forget. Seeing everything fade away in a far when the boat was drifting away. Seeing the beautiful ocean water and seeing it sparkle from the suns reflection was so amazing. I got to hang out with my friends and enjoy the amazing views. I would sit by myself at points just so I could take in the view. We all took photos to remember all the great times we had. Getting too Pikes Place Market had a bad smell to it. Like smoke mixed with gas. A lot of people were walking around. There was so many stands outside and inside of pikes market. I got to walk around with my friends and buy souvenirs. I bought a few souvenirs for my family and I. While my friends and I were shopping we got so distracted we lost track of time. Next thing we knew we had to head back with our Avid group. Getting on the bus to leave hit me hard. I was going to miss everything that I got to do on this trip. We got to the airport and entered the plane. We all settled into our seats and took off back to Denver. Looking outside in the plane was so gorgeous. There was a huge mountain that blended in with the clouds. I was so glad I got the chance to go on the San Juan trip and I definitely would want to go again.

Last Day

The last day in San Juan we woke up at 6:00 in the morning and getting ready to go to the ferry. When we got in the ferry we were doing are binders and playing cards and eating are breakfast. When the ferry got to Seattle we got in the bus and we were chilling and sleeping and playing cards. When we got to pikes market are teachers gave us money to buy lunch or clothes. When it was 12:20 we got to the bus and took us to the airport when we got their the line was so big we had to wait for a long time. Then the security was checking us so we don't have anything dangerous items with us. Then we stop to get food in the airport. Then it was time to get in the airplane. The airplane took off and we were playing cards and a lot of sleeping. When we landed to Colorado we were tired from the long flight and was so exhausting. When I got home I was tired and went to bed and felt sleep.

Last Day Of Trip :(

On the last day of our amazing trip, we got to walk around the Seattle Pike Place Market for a hour. That definitely was a sad day. When we took a ferry ride back home all of us were playing card games, and took any last pictures we could at the island. After the ferry ride was done we got on the bus and took it to the Seattle Pike Place Market, we had a hour to shop, or eat. We have the best teachers so they gave everyone twenty dollars for the market. My friends and I spent to much time looking for souvenirs that we didn't get to eat at the market, so we just ate at the airport. But after having a fun time at the Seattle market and smelling all the fish and seeing a lot of art we had to go to the airport. The feeling of going to the airport wasn't the same as when we first got to Seattle. I felt more down, and tired because that's when I truly felt that the trip was over. On the plane my friends and I played uno for a while and messed around. After, we all fell asleep on each other the whole rest of the plane flight. As sad as I was to leave the island, it felt good to come home and see my family. This has defiantly been the best experience I've ever had!

Our Last Day

On my last day I woke up frantic. It was 6:47 and I realized we had to be out of the hotel at 7:15. I was the first one up so I had to wake Karla and Lidia up. Leslie knocked on our door so I opened it. Leslie and I woke Lidia up and then Karla. We rushed outside after getting ready. I was upset we had to leave it was a beautiful place and I knew I had to come back. We started walking down to the doc. Walking down was a weird experience because I knew I wouldnt come back for a while. I saw the places Ive become used to. We waited for a while and we finally boarded.
On the way to the airport we stopped at Pikes Market. It was a open air market. It was really busy and kind of annoying. I bought a picture and bubble tea. It was the first time I had drank it and I had a great time. The market was pretty loud but you didn't have to yell to be heard. Then we went to the gum wall. I was fascinated by the various colors of gum and the thickness of the wall. I added a piece of my gum to the wall. Finally we parted our way back home.
At the airport I still had energy left but to re charge I bought food at McDonald's and got a free ice cream. The airport was packed more than the DIA. Finally after purchasing my last souvenirs I sat at the waiting area and ate. After calling us on all my friends sat together. For two hours straight me and Lidia laughed until we landed. Landing reminded me how tired I was. Then seeing my dad and sister made me realize how homesick I was. I was glad to have a great experience with amazing people.

Our Last Day

On our last day it was really sad because we had to pack our things, clean our rooms and go outside ready to go on the ferry. When we went in the ferry it felt so weird because the ride went so fast but the trip didn't even feel like 5 days it felt like we berly got there and we left imidiatly. When we got to Seattle we went to that market we walked around and we went to stores to buy some things for us to keep and remember about Seattle. I bought a cup and some other things and the teachers gave us 20 dollars each and with that we could get food or whatever we wanted there. Then we went in the bus to the airport and we waited a little to get in the airplane but during that time we could buy food or something else and I bought something for my mom and dad then we went and grabbed some McDonald's and then we went back and we got in the airplane and during the flight Karla and I were laughing the whole flight but when we got to Denver we got our bags and we could go with our families. I loved this trip so much I had a great day with everyone. I really want to go back and plan on going back some day.

My Last Day:((

My last day was a great day. It was full of adventures and interesting foods, art, and amazing views. We woke up to a very annoying alarm. after, we ate a delicious burrito that our classmates prepared for us. Later on we walked to the dock to wait for the ferry. Then, we had to say good bye to beautiful San Juan Islands. While riding on the ferry and waiting to get to Seattle. We had so many fun adventures. We went to go walk around also. We visited the first Starbucks building. I had so many wonderful memories with my wonderful classmates. It was a great trip!!

What We Did On Our Last Day!!

The first thing we did was wake up. We ate burritos that we made the night before for breakfast and heated them up in the microwave. We didn't heat them up with the tinfoil though, so the hotel room didn't explode. We cleaned up, packed up, got ready, and walked to Harbor to board onto the ferry. The ferry ride seemed a lot shorter on our way back to Seattle. We arrived to Anacortes onto a bus and the bus took us to Pike's Market. When we arrived to Pike's Market, we walked around for an hour. It smelled really fishy. It was so loud, you could hear all kinds of music playing, a lot of conversations going on between people, people heating up food, and cars passing by. We had an hour of shopping with hour friends. After that we took the same bus to the airport. While we waited to board we all went for some more food, just in case some of us didn't get food at Pikes Market. When we boarded onto the plane I stayed awake the first 15-20 minutes to take a look of the beautiful view. Then I fell asleep. When we landed my friend, Hayli, told me that my teacher, Mrs. Barcheck, took a picture of me while I was sleeping. Then my teacher showed me it. I looked so gross. Then she deleted it. I was excited to go back home and see my family but at the same time I wanted to go back and stay at San Juan Islands for another week or two.

Last Day of The Rad Place

Waking up, I felt a bittersweet feeling getting out of bed and preparing my stuff for the day. I ate my breakfast that we got the previous night, walked out the door and waited for the rest of the palz. We walked to the ferry where we would leave the island. I took in the smells, looks, feelings of the island one last time before I boarded. On the ferry, I stood outside for the majority of the ride. The sky had cleared up that day and you could see all of the mountains for the first time this trip. We got off and boarded a bus to go to Seattle where we would go to Pike's Market. We walked around the area, seeing the gum wall and other attractions, while buying food and souvenirs. Finally, we got on the bus one more time to get to the airport where we would board a plane to Denver. The flight back consisted of on-and-off UNO games and naps. As we were landing, we were right above the clouds that covered Colorado. They all were bright and reflecting the sun. Only a few parts of the mountains were visible, and it made a very warm welcome back home (even though it was cold). We said our thank yous and goodbyes, and I left with my parents. The last day was almost as good as all the others, and I'm happy but also sad to leave.

Last Day :(

The last day was one of the hardest day because we were saying buy to a beautiful place called "San Juan Island". Our day started out by of course waking up, but also eating a breakfast burrito and also going to the dock and waiting for the ferry to get here. In the ferry we saw the last view of the Island, I really enjoyed all the activities and all the memories made there. I was really happy to go home but sad a t the same time because I really enjoyed the week. I was really excited to go to Pikes Peak Market in Seattle because Ms. Barcheck was saying so many good things about it. In the week after I left the hotel room or anywhere I was always patting down my thighs thinking that I forgot my phone when sometimes I'm forgetting something else(watch and Pencil pouch). MY phone would've been really helpful in some ways but also really distracting for example Facebook Snapchat and it would've been so helpful for pictures and checking time. I really didn't miss my phone because I knew nothing would happen to me if, its not like without my phone I'm going to die.

Last day of our trip!!!

I woke up early got ready and I went to go get drinks for Jasmyn,Monibah and I.I walked down the street towards The Sweet Retreat it was a cool and beautiful morning.I ordered a Chai Latte,Mocha and a strawberry smoothie. Then I walked back to the hotel and we ate our breakfast burritos  and drank our drinks.
Then we met the class and we walked down to the ferry and we boarded.Once we all were seated my friends and I played some card games.I went out on to to rails in the front of the ferry and it was beautiful and sad that we were leaving,I loved watching the ferry push us thought the water past the islands. It was beautiful and kinda sad we were leaving.
Then we boarded a bus to Seattle and I took and nap for I don't know how long. When we arrived at Pikes market it was packed full of people. And we were let go for our free time there Jasmyn and I went to a fish place I got fish and chips,Jasmyn got disgusting garlic fries. Then we meet Monibah and Amber we went to get ice cream and I got Huckleberry. On our way out I got a googly eyed animal .

What We Did The Last Day

Our last day was amazing. On the Ferry ride in the morning Adyn and I went to the front and it was an fantastic view. The tanget orange and the red with shining of the ocean blue made it vibrant. It was unlike anything I've seen before. You could see the sunrise on the ocean. Once we finally got in Seattle, we went to shop around Pike's Market. There, there was so much amazing shops. The original Starbucks was there and a bunch of other fish markets. It was a awesome experience to be there and see everything in Seattle. We got food and other souvenirs at Pike's Market. Sadly, we eventually had to go back to the bus to get to the airport. We hung out at the airport for a while and then left for Colorado on our flight. It was so nice being in Washington, it was as green as lettuce. Over all the whole the trip was great, the last day included.

Last day of the trip!

The last day was very fun, exciting, and stressful. we traveled a lot on this trip, I personally loved traveling. When we left the hotel to board the ferry it was pretty sad. Leaving the beautiful island and going home.
The ferry ride seemed so short compared to the first time. I think it wasn't as long because we didn't have to stop at another island before leaving.
The bus ride was very long and seemed like it was taking forever. Most of us slept and listened to music in the bus.
Pikes Market was very interesting. It smelled very much like fish, considering there was fish all over the place. We got money to go get food, the food was very interesting and tasted very good. For some reason Seattle food tastes better.
The airport was probably my favorite/least favorite part honestly. The only part that was bad was that the security knocked over my bin with my stuff in it and I lost my earrings sadly. This airport seemed smaller but was pretty big considering it was in such a small space of land.
On the plane Emily, Monibah, and I played cards and talked. I mainly slept through the ride, traveling make a girl very tired.
I was anxious to see my family, once we got to baggage claim apparently my bag got there before I did. I am very happy to be home, even though I miss the beautiful weather of San Juan. I have to say I have to say another reason I'm happy to be home is because my skin hated the Seattle climate.

What we did the last day.

Smack hheeeey! The sound from the fish market in pikes market. Our Friday was busy with many thing like getting back home or shopping for that one last souvenir. When we woke up it was like a rush people working on their binder quickly or just rushing to eat and pack up. Then when we left and went on the ferry it was calming and I was sad leaving beautiful Friday Harbor. When we got on the bus it go a little more energy but there a lot of kids including me called my parents to make sure they were coming to the airport to pick them up. When the time came when we made it pikes market there was so much energy especially the fish market. People were throwing the fish people, clapping and yelling hey. In pikes market many of souvenirs were bought also lunch which I had a lot cherries. Then the plane ride we all were tired and wanted to sleep and get home fast. To conclude the last day was really sitting down and being exhausted at the end.

Lunch at Lime Kiln

We enjoyed a beautiful lunch at Lime Kiln Park- a popular whale watching spot on the island. Students explored the tide pools, enjoyed the view, and walked to the nearby lighthouse. Cesar came through big when he found a baby starfish! What a great place to eat lunch.

Free Time

During my free time my group had established a family chain amongst ourselves. We would go shopping at the market which is King's Market and we buy snacks and drinks for the night or a couple days. I being the first to think of making a family ranking became a proud soccer mom and took leadership. The rest then took place and Jayden became the soccer dad Adyn the russian mom and Tomas and Sam were the brothers or sons.We had established an amazing bond with King's Market as it was an incredible resource and something for us to do was shop when we had free time. This is the reason King's Market became the topic for my (Cesar) free time topic.

Another thing almost all of the AVID students did on our free time was go to the our hotels swimming pool.It was so fun to swim with the whole class. We played Marco polo, colors and we got on each others shoulders and fought until one group fell this was very fun and surprising that no one got hurt.We played for possibly hours. This was so fun and a good memory for us all to remember.

British Camp and The Pig War

Today we went to the British camp, that the British used during The Pig War. The Pig War was almost a war. In 1859, A British man named Charles Griffin owned prized pig. That pig went to Lyam Cutlers farm and ate his potatoes, and Lyam warned Charles to keep the pig out of hie farm. A few weeks after that, the pig went back to Lyam's farm and started to eat the potatoes again. Lyam found the pig and shot him because he got mad. Charles found out that his amazing pig was killed and got mad. Charles wanted Lyam in jail for what he did.

A few months later the United States sent over some troops to "protect" Lyam from Charles. When the British learned that the United States sent there military they decided to send over there military, and for 11 years both forces were in a stand off. Some German dude came in and said that the land was rightfully owned by the United States, and both sides left San Juan forever. Not one shot was fired the whole time.

Mt Young Hike

Lupita and Maximus

We thought the hike to Mt Young was a great adventure. It was different from Colorado in many ways. One was that the environment was much more moist. That caused a lot more vegetation, including ferns, madrone trees, and mosses. At the top of the hike it was different than some hikes in Colorado because the view had the ocean, other islands, less buildings, and boats. The animals were different because there were many slugs because it rained a lot this year. An interesting fact about Mt. Young and Sand Juan is that glaciers 18000 years ago carved out channels and scratched the top of Mt. Young. They also dropped off boulders in random places as they began to melt.
We also found a purple starfish by the ocean as we were eating lunch by a lighthouse at Limekiln. Along with that we saw a pair of seals swimming by and mussel colonies. A sad fact is Maximus Miles killed a slug today, the most depressing moment in his live. As he was walking down the trail while he was distracted by the beautiful view , not looking down as he slip on the slipper slug. Poor, poor slug. Other an this the hike was amazing.

Cooking and Cleaning Experiences

"Ughhh. Cooking and cleaning is so hard"
"I Hate it!!"
"I am going to burn my fingers just by flipping tortillas."
Actually a lot of people volunteered to clean and cook. We left it cleaner than when we found it. It was a great experience being able to make meals for other people. We got to be in cooking crews with people we don't really talk to. We also jammed out with music while cooking and cleaning. Although it was difficult finding utensils because everything was placed in different places. Buying enough food for everybody was also difficult sense everything was in small quantities. All in all, we had fun cooking and cleaning with other classmates we didn't really talk to.

Whale Museum

After watching two amazing hump back whales we went to the Whale Museum. In the whale museum, we had a really great and informative presentation about all the types of whales including the non-teeth whales (baleen) and teethed whales. After we got to explore some whales, we had the chance to see what inside of one; including trash and plastic. On the top ceiling was skeletons of whales and they were huge and pretty. There was a "telephone" that made different noises that the whales make which was fetching. Overall, the Whale Museum was an amazing experience.

A Whale!

Whale Watching

Riding on the boat was a really amazing experience. First, we got on the boat and they went threw all of the safety instructions. They went through things like what to do if the boat crashes and how to wear a lifejacket. Then the captain drove out into the ocean. I don't get sea sick however, I always get nervous on the boats. You could go out on the front of the boat and it was freezing. It was a neat experience and a new one. Along the sides of the boat were these thin walkways, and I almost fell off like 5 times. One time we passed these freight ships and there was really big waves and it was really fun. Overall, just riding the boat was a fantastic adventure.

Did you know a Orcas dorsal fin is 10ft tall? Well I didn't know that until today. Today was an incredible experience, although I have been whale watching before it was still amazing because it was a completely different scenery. It was beautiful because of all the islands and the information also the sights of all the different islands, and rocks. My favorite part was when the Humpback Whales tails came up and splashed the water. It was exciting seeing how all the different type of seals barked. Overall it was a great experience to learn from and see.

American Legion and Free Time

We're really thank full to use the American legion as a meeting area and food center for a place to eat all 3 course meals. The kitchen at the legion has every tool and neat thing there to make anything. They even have a fryer. Their are so much tables and chairs our class can each have 2 chairs and we still might have chairs. Even though it takes a while to clean up the kitchen since it's pretty big, the kitchen always looks brand new once we are done cleaning. It is pretty fun to wash the dishes in the sink. Most importantly, the view we get from the American Legion is extremely beautiful .That is why we are really honored to use the American Legion.
During our free time we all have the opportunity to be on our own.  In the hotel, they have an indoor pool and hot tub. We spent around 2 hours swimming and playing pool games like Marco Polo, colors, and chicken fight. Then, we walked around the island exploring all shops and food stores. For the rest of our free time we bought souvenirs and snacks. Also, we played in parks, high school fields, and met new people. Being in a new environment is an amazing experience. Especially being able to walk around and discover similarities and differences from San Juan to Colorado. After walking around, we feel prepared and ready for the scavenger hunt.

Docks Exploration at Night

Ms. Barcheck here. Just wanted to post a few pictures of the students who chose go to the docks last night. There are lots of fun little critters: shrimp, bioluminescent jellyfish, tube worms, and more for students to observe; we always have a contest to see if any student can catch a shrimp.

Another piece of good news from San Juan Island is that Popeye, the resident seal who we thought has passed away, is alive and well. We didn't see her last night, but we're hoping to say "hi" to Popeye before we leave.

Tide Pools

Amber: Today was a really fun experience being at the tide pools. We got to see many little creatures and Emily got a really big crab, it looked really cool but I was scared to touch it even the smaller ones scared me. We had our own groups and in mine was Karla P, Randy, Jose D and myself. I think we worked really well together and that created new relationships.  The water was really cold and some students fell in but they got up kept looking. We did presentations on little organisms that we had found. I presented on a snail. Since i hadn't been there for any presentations with Mr. John Davis I didn't know much on how to name things but Mr. Graham helped me out and I learned what a Phylum is. ITs like a way of classifying an organism. In over all today was a really great day and I got to learn many new things on organisms. Today was a really eventful and fun day I enjoyed it!

Hayli: Today was full of adventures. I got to see many new animals I have not seen before. We were all in groups and my group was Karla, Leslie, Monibah, and Cesar. We got the chance to touch sea anemone. Evert time I would touch the sea anemone they would close up. They were squishy and fun to look at.  This was an amazing thing to see for the first time. That was my favorite part of the tide pool. I had a new experience I have never had before. We got the chance to explore and get into the water. Everyone was getting wet and finding new creatures. My team mate found a muscle that was attached to rocks which was really exciting to see. The muscle was almost the same size as my hand. Everyone was exploring and having a great time. Im glad I had the chance to explore the tide pools with my avid group.
